Faye, who had been spacing out, snapped back to reality when a flash caught her eye. Mike was fiddling with some sort of cross necklace, and the glint had reflected at her. Faye frowned, and shrugged. She herself was an atheist, and had always been quite uncomfortable with religion as a whole. Looking over at Gavin, she chewed her lip nervously, contemplating going over to talk to him.
Rubbing her injured, sore, head, she looked up abruptly when she heard Ophelia's mother's name. "Doors? That sounds familiar. You may have been in the same high school I was, right?" Faye asked, looking up at her older brother Jake, who was next to Mia. "Do you remember anyone with that name? I feel like I do, for some reason..."
Pushing blonde bangs out of her eyes, she unconciously flicked her eyes towards Gavin for a second before refocusing on Ophelia.
-------------------------------------------------
Jake frowned as Faye spoke to him, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "It sounds kinda familiar....did you live around here, in this neighborhood? Or more towards the other side of town?" he asked, directing the last two questions at Ophelia. He vaguely noticed his sister sneaking glances at Gavin, and hid a grin, peeking over at Mia.

Mike depression only got worse the more he stood there. His mind kept going back and forth between how things used to be, how everything from his youth was stolen from him and how he couldn't maintain control in front of all these people. Kate was likely pissed at him. Gavin, well, Gavin was up there with Andrew when Mike should be the one offering some sort of comfort. he felt all-around useless.
He figured any attempt to try to comfort Gavin would truly be the blind leading the blind but he figured he should try. Maybe ask about that necklace he saw him wearing. It looked uncannily like his. Hell, he might not be his brother Tim but he certainly makes a good substitute.
He sucked in a large breath of air and finally called out to the young man. "Hey, Gavin, why don'cha come on over here. We can let Jack, the Overseer, do a quick service." Turning to Ophelia, "Then, before we head out to Germany, we'll see if we can find yer mom."
Mike didn't even register he was using his casual way of speaking again.

Kate rubbed her head slightly, trying to see if she had regained any feeling from the painkillers. Absolutely nothing except the barely tangible feeling of numbness. Sighing to herself, she ran a finger along her scar. She could barely register the touch.
She glanced over to the others, who were still speaking to the new girl, named Ophelia Doors, about her missing mother. She felt a little sad for the girl, her mother was most likely dead if she had been here when things went to hell. Shouldering her gun again, she walked over to the suburban and leaned against the back, away from the commotion.
Wish I had a cigarette at times like these... She let her head hang back for a moment to look up at the overcast sky. Were they screwed? They couldn't even get things done as a group most of the time. Did they even have a chance? If only O'Brien was here...Johnson too, he always helped me when I was down. Actually, if Johnson was here, I think he and Mike might've ended up killing each other by now, she laughed in amusement. Glancing back over at Mike, she cocked her head to the side in curiosity at the small cross both he and Gavin were sporting.
Is he religious? Doesn't seem the type...unless the religion is centered around chocolate.

Gavin looked over at Mike who had called him to come over to start the service. Gavin cleared his throat. "If we're doing the service then come here in front of the grave! And...... I need a minute man!" Gavin said turned his eyes back to the ground. He had mixed emotions. Andrew was good to talk to, but he felt that he was just in a depression. No one was going to bring him out of it, and no matter what everyone tried, he would have to deal with it.
He turned his eyes to the right slightly and saw Faye glancing at him. He sighed and turned back to the ground. He just didn't know what to do right now. He looked over at Andrew who stared at Crystal. Gavin thought. She would probably wake up soon, and Andrew was anxious of course. He watched him for a second.
The way Andrew stared..... he made it look like he had done this a million times. He was lost there and Gavin was perplexed. Gavin had interests, but not like this. He wondered how Andrew did this. How he could stare at her for as long as it looked like he could. He had never seen anything quite like it.
He turned away, trying not to seem creepy, and looked over at Faye, who for the moment was looking away. He stared at her. He wondered if he could do this like Andrew was doing it. He turned his attention back to Andrew when Andrew addressed him.
"So Gavin...... what are you going to do when we escape. What's your plan?" Andrew said never looking away from Crystal. Gavin was startled by the question. He had heard the others speak of Germany, but he had no interest to go there. So he thought for a moment. Just where was he heading after this?

Faye seemed to remember something when Ophelia said "Karen Doors" and mentioned to her brother that it sounded familiar. "It sounds kinda familiar...." Jake said. "Did you live around here, in this neighborhood? Or more towards the other side of town?" "My mother lives on Klein Street. Or...she did, last time I knew." Ophelia swallowed. "But when I was still here, we lived in the northern part of town, near the thick part of the forest." She tilted her head at Faye. She did look vaguely familiar...
Mike, who had been saying something to the boy in front of the graves, turned to her. "Then, before we head out to Germany, we'll see if we can find yer mom."
Germany?
"Er, thank you," she said, managing a smile.
"If we're doing the service then come here in front of the grave!" Gavin said.
"If you don't mind me asking," Ophelia whispered to the group nearby, "Who's the service for?"

Mike blew out a dereisive snort. "Fine fine, whatever, I'll come over there. Don't see why we gotta all be clustered by the grave though."
Mike saw Kate walk off and figured his guess about her being pissed at him was correct. Sucking in some wind and resisting the urge to sigh, he walked over beside Gavin and Andrew.
"Hey." he said, dropping a hand on the younger man's shoulder. "Ya did all ya could for 'em. Not even I coulda saved 'em. I dunno what kinda relationship you had with 'em but I can tell ya this; They'd be proud of ya. You've survived what only a handful'a people have. I know I'd be proud ta have a kid like ya."
He quick glanced at Andrew and nodded, then quietly whsipered, "Listen. I ain't really all about turning tail and leaving. I wanna gut that faceless fuck and I'm pretty sure you do to. We may have been out-voted but we might still get our chance by looking for 'Phelia's mom. By the way, kiddo, where'd ya get the bling? Looks just like mine." He finished, holding up his cross, a relic of a life long past.

Gavin grinned as Mike said this. His face was red from all of the warm tears that had flowed from his face. The odd father-son moment was very peaceful and important to Gavin. Still his grin disappeared soon. While Mike looked at Andrew, Gavin muttered, "You don't know my parents man."

Mike said holding up a cross necklace to Gavin.
Gavin stared at the necklace for a moment, clutching his own. Finally he said, "It was my dad's. He wasn't all religious, but he said it was a family heirloum. Whenever I asked why he wore it, he got mad at me. This seemed more precious to him then anything." Gavin let the necklace drop to his chest again. He wondered how far it went back in his family.

Mia saw Jake glance at her and smiled at him, then turned back to Ophelia. "Klein Street? I know where that is... but I feel like I saw her repeatedly; I wasn't over that way much... " She bit her lip, thinking hard.
"Oh! She's a hairdresser, isn't she?? She worked over at the salon on Lincoln Avenue, right? I was over there all the time, she would always talk to me about random crap, and she mentioned you a few times."

Mia mentioned seeing Karen somewhere before, and finally seemed to remember where it was.
"Oh! She's a hairdresser, isn't she?? She worked over at the salon on Lincoln Avenue, right? I was over there all the time, she would always talk to me about random crap, and she mentioned you a few times."
"That's her!" Ophelia was surprised but excited at this new revelation. "She's very talkative..."
WAS talkative. And yet there were certain things she never talked about, weren't there?
She ignored this thought.

"I thought so," Mia said, smiling faintly. "I'm Mia, by the way. I don't know if I've introduced myself yet. Oh, and the service is for Gavin's parents... when we got here they were dead." She motioned over to Gavin. "He's been kind of a wreck."

Crystal stirred. The nightmares were vivid in her mind. The wound that she had on her side was burning, almost on fire to an extent as her dreams tormented her like the last few days had.
Crystal was running. She had forgotten what it was that she was running from, and had stopped caring. She only knew that if she didn't keep running then there was no doubt that she was going to die. The scene here was a forest. She was scared out of her mind and could feel something like death right behind her. Laughter was surrounding her and pierced her ears like a high pitched ringing. Then she saw something, or more accurately someone.
In the clearing stood a slightly tall boy with brown hair, a white shirt, and a tie on. It was Andrew! Her Andrew! She ran at full speed and felt a warm feeling of happiness overcome her as she ran into him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Andrew, you're safe! Where are we? What's happening? Where is everyone else, I just, I just....." She was choking on her words. She had her eyes shut and was crying. After a moment though, she realized a few things. One, Andrew hadn't spoke, two, that he hadn't moved, and three, that her cheek felt warm against his belly. She looked up.
Instantly she knew by his eyes that were lifeless that he was dead. She looked at his stomach which was stained red of blood. "No! No, no, no, no no!" She screamed as he let go of the body and backed away. Andrew fell to the ground, dead. She shrieked and then looked up.
In the distance, a figure could be seen. It had a business suit, a tie, and something that stood out, no face. Crystal turned and ran. She didn't get far, but not because of the monster. Because she had lost Andrew. She fell to the ground which had leaves covering it and she cried. The footsteps of death drew closer, but she didn't care.
"I'm sorry Andrew! I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you. I'm sorry." She whimpered as the slenderman reached downwards and enveloped her in darkness.
Crystal's body jerked up as her eyes flew open. It fell back to the ground with a thud. She was panting and could feel her chest heaving. Her face was hot and sweaty. She laid there for a few seconds taking in that she wasn't dead and was apparently on grass, before she looked left and saw two boys sitting. One of them was Andrew. He was alive!

Gavin realized that he had ignored Andrew's question and turned back with an iffy answer. Mike seemed content with what Gavin had said and stood there. Still, Gavin knew that Mike had talked about Germany, so as quietly as possible he leaned over and whispered to Andrew when Mike wasn't looking.
"I plan to run. Go north to Canada. I can't drag everyone here into something that isn't their fault." He leaned away as quickly as possible. He looked at Andrew, who sat there processing what Gavin had said. He shook his head, signifying that he understood what he meant. He gave him a look as though he wanted to say something.
Then his head jolted to the left and Gavin copied him. He saw Crystal, who's eyes were now open, and she was staring at Andrew. She may not have even known it, but she was reaching for him slightly with her hand. Gavin smiled and looked at Andrew who was already up and darting over to her.

Mike had stood trhere quietly digusting the informtation Gavin had shared. He was oblivious to Gavin's comments to Andrew as he tried piecing it all together. He was pretty sure that Cody wasn't an Irish name ((But he is wrong: www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Cody )) so it seemed a little odd that they would share similar traditions. "Yeah, I'm not raelly religous either. I got this back when my parents were still tryin' to raise me Irish Catholic. Now I just carry it around, reminds me of my brother. 'Course, you know the saying; "No Athiests in a foxhole" haha." Suddenly Mike realized his humor was ill-placed and likely awkward, particularly while the boy was still grieving. He smiled sheepishly and replaced his hand on Gavin's good shoulder. "We should get this started, then maybe hit up a bank and a candy shop..."

Andrew understood why Gavin was planning to go to Canada. He looked at Gavin for a second, wanting to ask and odd question. Mind if I come?He just wanted to get out of this country, and he thought it was a good idea. They could go their separate ways if Gavin wanted to. Andrew just wanted to leave.
Then Andrew heard a noise of a slight thud. He turned and saw that Crystal was awake again. Andrew contained it but he was secretly ecstatic. She reached her hand out for him, and he was up and over to her in a flash. He crouched down beside her and then instantly, her arms were around him. He fell backwards and landed on his butt.
"Whoa, whoa what's wrong Crystal?" He asked as he again contained an emotion, this one of worry. She tightened her grip around his back and spoke against his stomach which made her voice muffled.
"I had an awful dream that you died. I thought I'd lost you again. I was so terrified. I-I'm sorry. I'm so sorry that I've been useless to you since we got here." Crystal said, and Andrew could feel her crying against his stomach. He pulled her arms off him despite her protest, and then moved a hand to her cheek.
"Crystal, It's okay, I'm alive now. We're safe, and we're going to get outta here. And you have helped me." He said pulling her into a hug. "More than you know." He muttered as she regrouped herself. After a minute or so, she pulled away and looked at him, smiling and wiping away the tears.
He returned the smile, and leaned in for a quick kiss. It turned out to be a little longer as Crystal held on. When they finally pulled away, Crystal smiled and said, "So, what did I miss while I was out?"

Ophelia stood a little to the side, still feeling out of place. She looked around and saw things in these people's faces: pain, the stoic numbness that came from too much happening too fast, anxiety and paranoia, bags from not sleeping well. She shivered.
The boy whose parents had died was saying something about going to Canada. Ophelia tuned out, looking around at the sky. It was lightening a little. Was it already morning?
