"Phone?" Ophelia noticed a woman in army clothing nearby. "I don't think phones are going to work out here--"
"Why not?" she said, brow furrowing. "I--I think I tried my cell phone earlier and that didn't work either."
She suddenly realized how strangely the man in front of her was dressed. Were all of these people in the military?
A large man with long hair, also in a military uniform, walked up to him.
"Hey. This girl a friendly or a hostile?"
She blinked, bewildered. "Hostile? Why would I be...is some sort of crisis situation going on? You army guys are the only people I've seen in this whole town."

Faye's brow furrowed as Gavin turned away, and a new, redheaded girl showed up, obviously talking to Mike and Kate. Rubbing her sore head briskly, Faye unsteadily got to her feet and toddled over to the new girl, blinking green eyes blearily.
"Guys, don't scare the girl." Faye scolded, smiling at Ophelia. "I mean she obviously has no idea what's going on, right?"
Turning to Ophelia again, Faye smiled briskly, and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Faye. Obviously, I'm not from the army...there's just been a....situation." Footsteps crunched over the grass behind her as Jake approached, a confused expression on his face.
"This is my brother, Jake, by the way." Faye added, feeling Jake squeeze her shoulder once, reassuringly.
-------------------------------------
Jake had wandered over to his sister when he saw the new chick, and was now peering past Faye, green gaze piercing. "Who's this?" he asked quietly.
Faye looked back at him, mouth open, then finally said, "Actually, I don't know her name yet." Jake rolled his eyes, then asked the girl, "You got a name, kid?"

"Yes, it's Ophelia," she said, smiling weakly at the blonde girl Faye, who seemed nice, and the tall man with glasses (Jake?). "What do you mean, a situation? I came into town to check on my mother..."
She realized that if that earlier incident HADN'T been a dream, then she'd left the house without even checking inside. What had she been thinking?
"I'm feeling a little wonky. I could've sworn I tried my cell phone but I don't know when. It went all screwy." She bit her lip and brushed a curl out of her eyes. "So...Was there an evacuation of some kind?"

Mike was startled by Kate's reaction.
This is not the "ass-kicking" I was expecting.
As he was trying to cover certain parts, his arms were too occupied to listen to the instinctive "Protect your face" protocol, he had nothing to protect him from falling like a tree that just got chainsawed. Luckily for him, this removed his current problem as concrete to the face is NOT his idea of a good time.
Readjusting, he noticed that Jake somehow got outside and was beside Faye. More importantly, the new girl, evidently named Ophelia, was talking. Shaking his head, he decided the girl was definitely not a hostile. Sitting up, he spoke up, "Well, no...no evacuation as such. I was sent here to listen to the orders of that guy," pointing to the Overseer, "...and that was about that. Later, a lot of people clustered at this factory, see? Then IT came and killed them. We barely survived."
Mike, being thick-headed to the extreme, didn't stop to consider the possibility that she had no idea what "IT" was.

"Wha-what?" Ophelia went cold all over. "Who was at the factory? My mother--she lives around here!"
She struggled to keep her breathing calm and even but couldn't suppress a cough. "Are you telling me there's a...a murderer loose around here?"
She didn't know these people, she shouldn't be raising her voice like this at them. But... This must be a sick joke...

Mike's eyes went wide at hearing her response. His initial response was to tell her the grim truth of the matter but in a sudden and unexpected revelation, he decided to start this whole conversation over.
"Well, no...not a murderer as such...Your mother lives around here?" Standing up, he crossed his meaty arms over his even meatier chest, then reached up and scratched his goatee.
"Listen...I dunno much about this...they all call it "Slender Man", but most of us here have run into it once before." Mike's face contorted as his blood started boiling again, "It is some monster or demon or something. Likes ta...I dunno...fuck with people's minds, rip away their memories, and then...ngrh..."
Mike suddenly gritted his teeth in rage and spat, "I'll fuckin' kill it. YOU HEAR ME, YOU BLANK-FACED BASTARD? I'LL KILL YA! I KNOW YOU ARE OUT THERE, WATCHIN' YA PERVY MIND-FUCK!"
Mike was clearly going off the deep-end again, just talking about It. He broke away from the conversation at hand as his eyes scanned the trees as he readied his beloved Natasha, ready the unload hell at the first sign of a business suit.

Kate flinched badly at the sound of Mike screaming. "Mike-" He kept yelling and then stopped to scan the trees, most likely looking for Him.
Grabbing him by one ear, she pulled him back, trying to get him to snap out of it. "Remember, Mike, team, team. No one goes after him alone. Now we've been trying to do this funeral forever and damn it, we're going to do it. Spider-Freak can wait."

Wakened from his rage/stupor, Mike couldn't help but yell out a "YOUWWCH!" as Kate grabbed him by the ear and pulled. It reminded him a little of what his mother used to do...before It came into his life.
It took so much from him. So much from most of the people here. They had to hold a funeral for one of their group because of Its meddling in their lives. Remorse washed over him like a tsunami.
This new girl...I ain't got the heart to tell her that her mom is prolly...
Finally, he shook his head and nodded somberly to Kate. "Yeah. Lets...lets just get this over with..."
Well...this is a mixed blessing. Can't leave without at least checking for Ophelia's mom...maybe I'll get my shot at big, thin, and freaky...

The Overseer glanced over at Mike and Katie, his expression unreadable underneath his gasmask (when had he gotten that back, anyway? He could barely remember, now.) Finally, he decided to break his silence. By god, he wasn't going to just stand here and do nothing, he'd at least try and explain a few things to the new person.
Honestly, he was pretty sure the screaming WASN'T helping the poor, confused newcomer that much. He wasn't even going to think about David.. although, to be honest it seemed like "Ophelia" hadn't even noticed him yet.
He stepped forward, offering his hand. "Name's Jack, Jack Bailey. Or The Overseer.. technically I'm in charge of this little operation here," Yeah, sure. As if the chain of command hadn't broken down days ago.. "So I think I can answer a few of your questions.."
"If you ignore the screaming, what Mike said is basically true... there is something or someone in this town, and it is called, for lack of a better word, The Slender Man. As for your mother.. although a few people were killed at the factory, I know for sure a few other groups split off from us.. we haven't run into them, though."
"I'm sorry, this must be so overwhelming to you.. but it's true, I swear it. We all look like trustworthy people, don't we?" he said this with a grin behind his mask, and then looked around at the group.

Ophelia's eyes widened in horror as the large man began talking about some sort of 'Slender Man' entity.
"It is some monster or demon or something. Likes ta...I dunno...fuck with people's minds, rip away their memories, and then...ngrh...I'll fuckin' kill it," he said, his voice changing suddenly to a lower, gravelly tone. "YOU HEAR ME, YOU BLANK-FACED BASTARD? I'LL KILL YA!"
She jumped back a little, blinking rapidly. The change in the man was immediate and astounding, and though she wanted to doubt the insane things he said, the anger in his eyes was real. Something had hurt him bad enough to freak him out to this extent.
The black-haired army woman grabbed him by the ear and reprimanded him, saying something about a funeral and "Spider-Freak." They seemed close, despite the current tension.
The strangely-dressed man finally spoke to her, leaving the other two to their conversation. He held out his hand and said ""Name's Jack, Jack Bailey." She shook his hand tentatively as he introduced himself. "Or The Overseer...Technically I'm in charge of this little operation here. So I think I can answer a few of your questions..."
He confirmed that there was something like what Mike had described, a "Slender Man" who had killed some of the townspeople at the factory. To her relief, however, he informed her that there had been other survivors.
So there's still a chance she's okay...
"I'm sorry, this must be so overwhelming to you.. but it's true, I swear it. We all look like trustworthy people, don't we?"
For some reason she found this comforting. Despite the mask muffling his words slightly the man seemed friendly enough, and if what he said was true it was no wonder the others had been acting erratic. In fact, she was just glad that people who wanted to help were the ones who had seen her first, rather than this strange and dangerous Slender Man figure terrorizing the place. She could've easily been another victim to add to the body count.

Mike's eyes were downcast once more. He felt pretty shitty right about now. Not only did he fail to keep himself in check once again but he now was feeling sorry for himself. He knew this was not how a "leader" would handle things. His hero, Optimus, he wouldn't let this shit get him down. Optimus had failings but he dealt with it rather then felt sorry for himself.
He blew another in a long set of heavy sighs. He pulled off his backpack again and rummaged through one of the smaller pockets. Eyelids half-open, he pulled out and examined his cross necklace. A gift from before IT intervened in his life, it was given to him not long after he was baptized. He was not a religious sort, he just found comfort he could not explain in it. He looked at it, a small tear escaping from one of his eyes before he could steel himself.
Wiping it away, hopefully before anyone could see it, he gritted his teeth and donned the necklace. He figured if there was a funeral about to happen he might as well look the part. Standing up, he walked over to Gavin and put an hand on the boy's shoulder in a comforting and big-brotherly manner. "Hey...Lets get this over with, big guy. Then we can boogie the fuck outta here."
Gavin nodded and walked over to the graves. Mike caught something about Gavin he hadn't noticed before; it looked like the young man had the same cross necklace he did. He thought it strange and made a note to discuss this with the youth a little later on.
In the mean time, Mike walked back over to Kate. She likely thought he was stupid for flying off the handle again. He cast a glance her way occasionally, trying to gauge her thoughts.

Ophelia glanced over at--Mike, was it? He looked sad for a second, fiddling with a cross necklace, then turned away to a younger man. "Hey...Lets get this over with, big guy. Then we can boogie the fuck outta here." Ophelia watched as the younger walked away to...were those graves? She felt sick to her stomach as she realized that these must have been some of this Thing's victims. Maybe even this guy's family. She stayed where she was, not wanting to be a stranger intruding on his grief. She put her hands in the pockets of her blue coat and shivered in the cool night air.

Mia yawned as she followed Jake over to Gavin's house, eyeing the new girl carefully and doing her best to avoid Kate and, by proxy, Mike.
"Ophelia? That sounds familiar," she said, thinking. "You say your mother lives around here? What was her name?"

Gavin walked to the graves. He stood there looking at the resting spot of his parents. He stared at the door/gravestone with some of the most mixed feelings that he had ever had. He wanted to get on his knees and apologize for being a bad son, a disappointment, and someone who couldn't save them. And another part wanted to spit on the grave and tell off the spirits of his parents who he'd hated while they were alive.
He stood there and clutched the cross necklace that Mike had stared at without him noticing. He felt his throat burn and his eyes water. His breathing increased. He stood there and made a silent oath to himself. I swear, here in front of my parents bodies that I will never let any of my family die. If they do then I will die trying to save them, or give my life for failing to save them as I failed to save my parents. He thought this, kissed the necklace and stood there.
He felt his cheeks burn as the hot tears ran down his face. He was making whimpering sounds as well as crying. He didn't know what to do. For this moment, he forgot about the funeral. He didn't even notice the attention of Andrew. He just stood there and whimpered. Finally he wiped his eyes and dropped the necklace so it fell to his chest. He turned and noticed Andrew when his hand touched Gavin's arm. ------------------------------------------ Andrew moved when Gavin had screamed, but Gavin backed away and sat down again, realizing that everyone was preoccupied by something else. Andy didn't move again until Gavin was spoken to by Mike. Gavin got up and walked to the graves as Mike walked away. Andrew snorted.
GreatMike! Get Gavin ready for a funeral, and then walk over to Kate and deal with that problem. Way to leave Gavin at the grave, where you just told him to go. It was clear that Andrew was becoming more of a grouch with Crystal not awake. She would come to soon, but it was a couple of minutes. Andrew glared at the people wasting time. He was ready for the funeral, everyone else had appeared to have either forgot, or given up care in the funeral.
Andrew did't greet the new girl. He glared at her for a second, without care if she saw him or not, then turned to the grave where he heard a sound. It was Gavin.... whimpering. Andy was stunned. Gavin just didn't act like this from what he'd seen. He walked over and grabbed his arm. Gavin took notice and Andy smiled.
"I know its gotta be hard man. Losing your folks and all. I don't like mine at all, so...... I mean I would care! It's just......" Andy paused and waited feeling awkward.
Then Gavin spoke, "You have people in your life that you love more, r-right?" He gestured to Crystal. She again stirred. Andrew smiled again, "Yeah. I guess that's right." He paused looking at Crystal, then back at Gavin, who was staring at a distracted Faye and Mike. He smiled.
Patting Gavin on the back, he sat down. After a few seconds, Gavin sat down too. They waited.

Ophelia was startled from her thoughts by a young, long-haired guy giving her an angry look. She bit her lip, reminded suddenly by the fact that she was still a complete stranger to these people.
"You say your mother lives around here? What was her name?"
Ophelia looked at the woman by Jake.
"Karen. Karen Doors. Do you know her?"
